Larimar is an opaque pectolite variety mined only in the Dominican Republic. It is found in surface concentrations along with volcanic rocks. Larimar gemstones can also be found on beaches near their mining area. Larimar is derived from volcanic rocks that emerged millions of years ago and were gradually washed into the sea where the waves and friction smoothed them out. This also removed the surface layers so that a well-polished and crystal clear gemstone remains.
Turquoise is an opaque, bluish green mineral, a hydrated copper & aluminium phosphate, with a high aluminium content. The natural gemstone is rare and has been prized as an ornamental gemstone for thousands of years because of its unique hue. It is considered to bring peace of mind, relieve stress and promote self-confidence. In Persia, at the time of Alexander the Great, turquoise was used on engagement rings, since according to the tradition, it signified trustworthy relationships.
