Hematite It is a mineral, consisting of iron oxides. Its name is of Greek origin, and is due to the colour of the powder found during processing, which is red like the colour of blood. Hematite is an opaque mineral, has a metallic luster, and a lead-silver to black color. Its hardness is 6.5 and specific gravity is 5.05. It has been used in jewellery making since 3000 BC.
Note: Careful use of the komboloi is recommended. Natural lines, pores, or subtle surface irregularities are inherent characteristics of the material and highlight its authenticity.
The cord may wear over time with use, especially in komboloi made from stones or heavier materials. This wear is normal and can be easily restored through replacement.
