Larimar is an opaque pectolite variety mined only in the Dominican Republic. It is found in surface concentrations along with volcanic rocks. Larimar gemstones can also be found on beaches near their mining area. Larimar is derived from volcanic rocks that emerged millions of years ago and were gradually washed into the sea where the waves and friction smoothed them out. This also removed the surface layers so that a well-polished and crystal clear gemstone remains.
