Tanzanite is the blue to violet gem variety of the mineral Zoisite (a calcium aluminium hydroxyl sorosilicate) belonging to the epidote group. It was discovered in 1967, in the Merelani Hills (Mererani) of the Manyara Region in Northern Tanzania, near the city of Arusha and Mount Kilimanjaro. It is thought to have beneficial properties for the heart and enhances the healing of mental breaks. The prismatic crystals exhibit a typical typical typical vertical grain, found in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins. Tanzanite is often used in jewellery making together with diamonds.

Inclusions, cracks and breakage surfaces are a natural phenomenon and should never be associated with wear and tear.
