The deep-red variety of garnet, known as almandine or rhodolite garnet, may in rare cases exhibit asterism. When this optical phenomenon occurs, the stone is referred to as a “asteriated garnet” or “star garnet.”
Features of star garnet:
Colour: Typically deep red to reddish-purple.
Asterism effect: May display a four-rayed or six-rayed star, visible under a strong point light source (such as a torch).
Asterism feature: Caused by the presence of rutile or hematite needle-like inclusions trapped inside the stone and aligned in specific directions.
