Tiger’s Eye – Natural quartz gemstone
Tiger’s Eye is a natural semi-precious gemstone belonging to the quartz family. It is distinguished by its unique optical effect, known as chatoyancy (“cat’s eye”), which creates a moving, linear sheen across its surface, resembling the eye of a tiger.
This effect is caused by the fibrous structure of the material, formed through the transformation of crocidolite, giving the stone its characteristic “lively” appearance. Its color ranges from warm golden and brown tones to darker shades.
Variations of the same stone
Tiger’s Eye appears in different color variations, often referred to by different names:
Hawk’s Eye – blue/grey variety
Bull’s Eye – reddish variety
Eagle Eye – trade name for darker or blue tones
Despite the difference in color, these are essentially the same stone, sharing the same structure and core characteristics.
