Mookaite belongs to the class of silicate minerals and the subclass of tectosilicates. It is a member of the quartz family. Mookaite has a hardness of 7 and occurs in the trigonal crystal system. It is found in burgundy and mustard-yellow and it is generally prized for its vibrant hues. This multi-colored gemstone is found only in Australia and is used not only for the manufacture of decorative objects and jewelry but also for its healing properties. It is named after the site where it was discovered, i.e. Mooka Creek in Western Australia.
